About Our Church
The Abundant Joy Christian Center was founded Sunday, February 4, 1996, in Newark, New Jersey. Our first worship service was held in the ballroom of the Newark Gateway Hilton. After a few months, we moved to the Church at the Crossroads, East Orange, NJ, where we conducted our first baptism service. November, 1996, God opened up a door to move to Jersey City. In January 2004 we moved to our new home located at 137 Bowers Street, Jersey City. In accordance with our move, in March 2004 we changed our name to ABUNDANT JOY COMMUNITY CHURCH.
About our Pastor
Willard W. C. Ashley, Sr., Doctor of Ministry, Doctor of Humanities
The Reverend Dr. Willard W. C. Ashley, Sr., D. Min., D. H., MFT
is the founder and senior pastor of the Abundant Joy Community Church. He is also the Executive Director of the Abundant Joy Community Development Corporation which is a not for profit 501(C)3 organization. Dr. Ashley serves as the Program Director for the Black Psychiatrists of Greater New York. The Reverend Dr. Willard Ashley, Sr., is a staff psychotherapist at the Riverside Church, New York City, where he works with teenagers, parents, adults, couples and groups. More about our Pastor
Times of Worship
We worship God in the beauty of this sanctuary every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. We meet for Bible Study on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Lord's Supper
Our congregation celebrates the Lord's Supper every first Sunday of the month and every first Wednesday evening of the month.
Becoming A Member of Abundant Joy
After the sermon, if you would like to become a member of this congregation, you are invited to come to the front of the sanctuary, while the hymn is being sung. Our Pastor reserves the right to the final approval of all membership applications.
